KIU chaplain celebrates Golden Jubilee in priesthood

It was all joys at Radio Maria Mutungo Binna yesterday as popular Priest Rev. Fr Benedict Birungi alias Fr Young celebrated his Golden Jubilee (50yrs) in priesthood.
The celebrations were held yesterday Friday April17th,2020, at RMU Kampala chaplain in Mutungo.
During the Holy Eucharist Mass, Fr Young thanked God for granting him many years of vocation, good health and pleaded to Christians to continue praying for him to the Lord.
Fr. Birungi who hails from Bunyaruguru (Present day Ruburizi district) in the western Archdiocese of Mbarara also doubles as the Kampala International University Chaplain under the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Chaplaincy.
Ordained as a priest on 12th April, 1970, today, Fr Birungi is among the Mbarara Archdiocese priests who have eaten too much salt.
Immaculate Musiimenta, a former Catholic Charismatic Renewal leader in the KIU chaplaincy defines Fr Birungi as a true servant of God.
“If trueness defines a servant of God, then its worth noting that Fr Ben is the one,” Immaculate commended.
While he is defined as a true servant of God, various students define him in different perspectives.
Ms Jane Frances Twesigye, a former Birungi’s CRE student at KIU describes him as a Parent, lecturer, counsellor whose mentorship grooms one well prepared to conquer the future.
Another student who preferred anonymity applauded the priest’s compassion citing out his acts of kindness a priest renders him and other vulnerable students at the university.
“There’s a time when we are troubled with tuition, rent or upkeep challenges, Fr is always our refugee,” anonymous.
Back to the dioceses, Fr Birungi is a reknown educationists in the Archdioceses. Its due to his educational background that in 2011, ArchBishop Paul Kamuza Bakyenga appointed him a Chairperson of the Diocesan Education Committee which he has led to date.
