A teenager is in police custody after being arrested for the attempted murder of a local farmer in Rubirizi District.
Naziru Bataringaya, 19, is accused of attempting to kill Porutazio Kasimbura, 48, a resident of Kyenzaza 1B, Kyenzaza Parish in Kirugu Sub-county. The incident reportedly occurred on June 9, when the suspect allegedly broke into the victim’s home and inflicted severe injuries on his head and hands.
The Acting Greater Bushenyi Region Police Spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, confirmed the incident and said the victim was rushed to hospital and is currently recovering.
“Fortunately, the victim was rescued by responders and is still undergoing treatment at KIU Hospital in Ishaka,” SP Tayebwa said.
The suspect is currently detained at Rubirizi police station on charges of attempted murder.
“Upon gathering sufficient evidence against the suspect, we shall prosecute him in a court of law for attempted unlawful killing,” Tayebwa added.
Police recovered a panga at the scene of the crime that is believed to belong to the suspect.
“We recovered a panga that was used to cut the victim. Reason for the attack not yet known,”
The public has been urged to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report unresolved disputes to the Police or other relevant authorities for appropriate resolution.
A case of attempted murder has been registered at Rubirizi Police Station under file reference number CRB 281/2025, as investigations into the matter continue.
