Residents of Kansanga, Ssimbwa zone in Makindye East division were taken aback on the morning of Saturday, August 19th, 2023 when a woman identified only as Betty Nakamatte was discovered dead in the middle of a football pitch.
The victim had reportedly been subjected to brutal physical assault, sexual violence and dismemberment. Witnesses recounted discovering Nakamatte’s naked body lying lifeless at KCCA pitch with one arm and leg severely injured.
One eyewitness shared that “Nakamatte was a very good neighbour of ours; “she was always immaculate despite her occupation as a laundry attendant.”She added tearfully.
Bruno Sseremba,the area defense for Ssimbwa Zone confirmed that news about Nakamatte’s murder broke out around 7:00 AM on the day of discovery.
He noted that this is the fourth such incident to have occurred within this year alone involving three female victims and one Liberian man all found dead at the same playground near Kansanga Seed Secondary School where Nakamatte’s remains were discovered.
Sseremba attributed the increase in crime rate within their locality to rampant youth unemployment coupled with an influx of people from diverse backgrounds into their neighbourhood. Police are still conducting investigations into this heinous act against Betty Nakamatte.
