NAMISINDWA: Police in Namisindwa district is holding in their cells three UPDF soldiers over allegations of aiding the escape of COVID-19 suspects from the isolation centre.
Lt Jude Wandera, the UPD Spokesperson Elgon / Bukedi subregion, confirmed the arrest of the officers. He said the suspects have been getting bribes from corona virus suspects quarantined at Magale Secondary School and later aid them to escape.
Wandera said that they (soldiers) were arrested on the orders of the district RDC Moses Wamoto Kigayi.
Among the arrested is Corpal Issa Drug, who has been identified as a prime suspect in the matter.
“The prime suspect Cpl Issa Drug has allegedly been aiding the escape of people under quarantine after getting a bribe from them. As UPDF, we don’t tolerate such acts which tarnish our image,” Lt Jude Wandera said.
The Bukedi police spokesman Rodgers Tatika also confirmed the arrest stating that the three are currently detained at Lwakhakha police station.
When guilty is proven, the three shall be charged with misconduct.
