KAMPALA
In a major operation, the Uganda Police Force, Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and Crime Intelligence Units arrested 99 suspects across the Kampala Metropolitan Area on June 11 and 12, 2025. The search targeted known criminal hotspots in Wakiso, Central Kampala, and Mukono District.
In Kira Division, 30 suspects were arrested in Najjera, Bulindo, and Shimon on June 11. Police recovered quantities of opium, a narcotic substance widely abused in these communities. The suspects are detained at Kira Police Station.
In Central Kampala, 60 adult male suspects were arrested in a night operation on June 11, targeting crime-prone areas like William Street, Wilson Road, and Old Taxi Park. The suspects are being held at the Central Police Station in Kampala.
Mukono District, 9 suspects were arrested in Kiwala Village, Nama Sub-County, on June 12. Police believe they are connected to a series of robbery incidents in the area. The suspects are detained at Mukono Police Station and have been charged.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, commended the role of local leaders and residents who provided intelligence that guided the operations. He reaffirmed the force’s commitment to maintaining law and order, stating, “Kampala Metropolitan Police remains dedicated to removing criminal elements from our communities. We encourage the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities.”
Owoyesigyire said the suspects will undergo further legal processing, and court proceedings are expected to happen soon. The police urge the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to aid in maintaining law and order.
