WAR REPORT:
The Congolese army (FARDC) and the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) have arrested over a dozen of Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels, who have been behind a series of attacks on civilians in Eastern DR Congo and bomb attacks in Kampala City.
According to a statement released by the UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso, the UPDF has been at Mukakati Forward Operating Base for a week, carrying out other military activities that enhance combat readiness against ADF terrorists.
Brig Gen Byekwatso noted that since the forces started using their airstrike and artillery against the enemy on November 30, over 31 Congolese hostages were released, 34 ADF terrorists arrested and four enemy camps destroyed.
She added that the UPDF Engineering Brigade working with FARDC has embarked on opening up the impassable stretch of the main supply route from Mukakati UPDF Forward Operating Base (FOB) up to ease passage through R.Semilik Bridge.
Recently, the UPDF revealed that the dilapidated and narrow stretch of 14kms had slowed down the advance of the UPDF ground offensive against ADF terrorists.
The press statement was signed by the UPDF spokesperson Brig. Gen Flavia Byekwatso and the Congolese Army spokesman Kasonga Cibangu Leon-Richard in Kampala and Kinshansa respectively.
