Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital has successfully separated conjoined twins.
Dr. Celestine Barigye, the hospital director disclosed that a team of specialists led by Dr. Deus Twesigye, a senior consultant and general surgeon, separated the babies belonging to Rebecca Nkunda, a resident of Kakooba in Mbarara city.
Dr. Twesigye the lead specialist said the babies were born on 33rd week contrary to 40 weeks of normal delivery.

He added that it took the specialists 8 hours on Thursday, last week, to separate intestines and bladder which the duo shared with each weighing 3.5kgs.
Halson Kagure, the Mbarara referral public relations officer has reaffirmed that babies are responding to post operation medication, in intensive care unit under close supervision by experts.
