The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh S.R.Mubaje has asked muslim communities in Uganda to be united for easy spread of the Islamic faith.
This was during the Eid -ul-Adhuha prayers at Gadafi National mosque in Kampala on Saturday.
In his speech, mufti highlighted on the constitutional process that they are undertaking and confirmed that the draft is ready waiting for approval by the independent UMSC Constitutional Amendment Commission
Mubaje is optimistic that the new UMSC Constitution will cause unification to all muslim communities in Uganda which have been at loggerheads for many years
He revealed and that the draft will soon be tabled before the General Assembly set to start on July 11th- 13th 2022.
“The only way that will unite us is the constitution, there is a team the is working on the drafting of the Muslim constitution and next week the committee is sitting to review these constitution to be passed as the new Muslim constitution to take up for the next years because the old one has been there for over 36 years ,” Mubajje said.
In addition, the mufti said that Uganda Muslim Supreme Council will starting July 14 conduct elections of new council leaders across the country.
“Starting on 14th July, all the supreme council offices will be vacant as we prepare for the general elections that will happen after the constitution is ready,” Mubajje added.
He urged Ugandan Muslims to get prepared to participate in the UMSC national elections.
During the electoral exercise, muslims will elect Committees for village Mosques, Counties, Districts, Regions, the Executive, and General Assembly purposely to strengthen unity for a viable UMSC that will survive generations to come.
