I will love and honor you all the days of my life.” if it were marriage, then this would be an oath taken by President Museveni as he suppresses nation’s oldest political party, DP.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday officially signed a cooperation agreement with chairman Norbert Mao, the Democratic Party president proving to Ugandans on his statement that Democratic Party (DP) is nothing without him.
The signing ceremony was at State house Entebbe and was witnessed by 9fficials from the ruling NRM and DP. During the ceremony, president Museveni once again retaliated his statement on the posterous existence of DP without Museveni. He also congratulated Mao for agreeing to work with NRM.
“Chairman Mao, congratulations on agreeing to work with NRM party, it is something that should have happened at the top level long ago. You know the history, I keep telling you that DP without Museveni is not a serious group,” Museveni said.
In his speech, chairman Mao praised president Museveni as a great captain of a ship called Uganda appealing to Ugandans to continue praying to the captain to steer the ship in the right direction.
“Uganda we have got a great captain who is in control of the ship that we are all in, the name of that ship is called Uganda. Therefore I appeal to you Ugandans to continue to pray to our captain to steer the ship in the right direction to reach our destination well,” Mao said.
Mao assured to president Museveni that he is determined and willing to adhere with what they have agreed.
“We are committed to adhering to whatever we have agreed too and I want to tell Ugandans that we have signed this agreement in good faith,” Mao added.
All along there have been rumors that chairman Mao and Democratic Party they are a siding with the rolling party, and Mao noted that it is one of the reasons why they decided to sign this agreement.
The new marriage has attracted public debates on the position of Democratic Party in Uganda’s opposition politics and the relevancy of opposition parties in Uganda.
