Police in Tororo are holding in cells Godfrey Macho, MP Busia Municipality on allegations of defying President Museveni’s COVID-19 directives and also inciting violence among traders.
Macho was allegedly found on Saturday mobilising Busia traders to go and open their shops and market stalls something that violates the directives issued by the district taskforce on coronavirus and president Museveni meant to combat the spread of corona virus.
Julius Ceasor Tusingwire, Regional Police Commander (RPC) Bukedi region confirmed the arrest.
“We arrested him for mobilising a section of traders to forcefully open shops and stalls in the market, this violates the directives set by the district task force on preventing the possible spread of covid-19 and puts the lives of people at a risk of contracting the virus,” he said.
He further said that the suspect is being detained at Tororo Central Police station.
