Since last week, the Media has been awash with news of alleged diversion and sale of iron sheets meant for Karamoja sub-region from the Office of Prime Minister. Even though Prime Minister Robinnah Nabanjja has come out to dismiss the claims as untrue, the media has continued to report that the iron sheets were procured purposely for vulnerable communities in Karamoja.
The state minister for finance in charge of General duties Henry Musasizi has confirmed that he received the mentioned iron sheets from the prime minister’s office and appropriately distributed them to schools in his constituency.
The Media reports indicated that Minister Musasizi is among the top Government officials who shared the iron sheets in question. However, while speaking as the Chief Guest during the baptism of St Augustine Ikumba choir at St Augustin Catholic church Hamurwa sub county Rubanda district yesterday, Min. Musasizi who doubles as the Rubanda East MP explained that he has been consistently in touch with the Office of the Prime Minister, lobbying for the needs of his constituency, not only iron sheets, but also water, posho among others.
Musasizi explained that he requested for the iron sheets because a number of schools needed them in his constituency, adding that he has been on several parliamentary fronts to fight against corruption, and therefore cannot participate in the same.
During the same Mass, Hon. Musasizi asked Christians to embrace saving culture and work towards fighting poverty
While presiding over the Mass Rev Fr Herbert Agaba, the parish priest of Kakore Rugambwa in Rubanda district confirmed that he received 200 iron sheets from Hon Musasizi to boost different projects in the parish. He said that of 200 iron sheets 63 iron sheets were used at Bugiri Primary school and 132 remaining are going to roof St Johns Ikumba primary school class room block.
