MBARARA
Hon. Kasule was today addressing district leaders from western region during a regional SDG stakeholders forum held at Hotel triangle in conclusion of the 3 days SDG regional festival.
She challenged the leadership of Mbarara city and Mbarara district not to mind so much working from the same office but mind about service delivery to the people.
Kasule Lumumba requested the mayor and the district chairman to ensure that they focus on service delivery since the cities were created on demand.
During the same meeting, Kasule called upon all men to live by example and provide essential needs to their families since they are the heads of families as they tackle goal number one which is aimed at eradicating poverty. Kasule said once poverty is fought, the other goals become easy to achieve.
Kasule also noted that sustainable development goals have been with us and therefore, people need to understand them in their local languages. “Popularization and localization of SDGs simply means explaining to citizens in their local languages” said Kasule.
Hon. Kasule challenged leaders from other districts to copy from Mbarara city and improve their districts by planting more trees, making sure there proper disposal of waste among others in order to achieve the 17 SDG goals.
In his remarks, the Mbarara city mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi said they are not happy with the way the systems are working. Kakyebezi said all the money collected in revenue is first sent to Kampala which is later sent back late ending up not being utilized.
He said this has greatly affected the city development.
In his reaction, Didas Tabaro the Mbarara district chairperson noted that his office is not concerned about operating in the same space with the city as long as there is service delivery to the people they serve.
