KISORO
A 24-year-old man in KISORO district has been sent on remand for 15years after he was found guilty of murder.
The convict is Ibrahim Baseme, a resident of Nyatete village, Chahi parish Nyakinama subcounty in Kisoro district.
While appearing before the court for a second time, the Resident Judge Hon. Samuel Emokor said since the convict has already spent four years, seven months and three days on remand, he will continue to serve his jail term for the next 10 years.
Background
According to the prosecution side, on December 7th, 2018, the convict while in Nyatete Trading Center, assaulted Cosma Barugahare, 27 years after the duo developed a misunderstanding at a local bar.
Prosecution further alleges that the accused the two were separated and the accused left the scene angrily while Barugahare returned to the bar before he decided to return home.
On the same day at around 11:50pm, Barugahare was discovered lying helplessly in a pool of blood with a deep cut on his head. He was rushed to Kisoro Hospital for treatment which transferred him to St. Francis Hospital, Mutolere.
The next morning, he was taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Arrest
Intelligence reports implicated Baseme to the murder and he was arrested as a prime suspect, produced to court and remanded.
Today (June 22), he was arraigned to court for a second time and the resident judge Hon. Samuel Emoror further remanded him for 15 years.
In his judgement remarks however, the judge advised that the convict has the right to appeal against the judgement.
