KABALE
Kabale district Local Government council, statutory boards and commissions have been inducted into policy, roles and laws used in undertaking their activities.
The two days training that commenced on July 10 and closed on July 11, 2023 was organized by ACODE in partnership with Uganda Local Governments Association (ULGA) and the ministry of Local Government at Kabale council hall.
At least 35 districts, including Kabale are benefiting from this induction aiming at improving performance of the councils and statutory bodies in the selected districts across the country.
Jonath Mbabazi, a research fellow at ACODE is concerned about the poor performance of many councils and statutory bodies such as District Land Board, District Service Commission and Local Government Public Accounts Committee across the country.
According to Mbabazi, local governments, statutory bodies and commissions are not Performing well across the country thus the need to train council members on how council structures can effectively perform their duties.
He says the training is to empower the council structures and statutory commissions to effectively perform their duties, encourage interdepartmental and technical interactions to ensure effective social services delivery to the people.
