Leaders from Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda agreed that valid National IDs should be used as travel documents among their countries, Internal Affairs ministry reported.
This has been announced by the Spokesperson, Simon Peter Mundei during a press briefing at police headquarters in Naguru on Monday.He said that Ugandans who wish to travel to Kenya and Rwanda can use their National IDs as a travel document.
He added that the recognition of national IDs as a standard travel document will ease travel in the three countries.
“You can present a National ID at the airport and you’re then given a document to present at your point of destination”, he said
This travel arrangement is not however, applicable in other East African countries such as Tanzania, Burundi, D.R Congo and South Sudan.
