Police in Kampala is holding in detention five university students on allegation of consuming marijuana inside a University Hall at Makerere.
They include three students of Makerere University, one from Uganda Christian University (UCU) and another a fresh graduate from Makerere University Business School (MUBS).
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango has identified the suspects as George Oloma, 26, student of Quantitative Economics; Julius Peter Ojok, 25; a Dental surgery student; and Emmy Echana, 26, a law student, all from Makerere.
Their two accomplices are Emmanuel Odongo, a UCU student and Fred Okot, who recently completed his Business Administration course at MUBS.
According to Police, the suspects were apprehended in one of the residential blocks at Makerere University following a tip off from reports by a student to the dean of students.
They were found with alcohol, marijuana, cigarettes and other narcotics on arrest. Onyango says the police is committed to stop consumption of alcohol and narcotics in higher institutions of learning.
