Seven Senior Four students of Nganwa High School in Kabwohe, Sheema district have been arrested for instigating violence in school.
The suspects are the ring leaders of the October 9 night attack (10pm) on students from other classes by the Senior Four students.
Reports indicate that it has been a tradition at the school where S.4 students are beaten by students, from the rest of the classes, as a way of bidding them farewell. However, the tradition changed when the S.4 candidates, organized themselves and attacked students from other classes that sparked off serious clashes among students.
Two students namely; Aruho Benon, 19 (S.4) and a one Mustafa S.5 student were seriously injured during the scuffle and we’re rushed to Sheema hospital for treatment.
Police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga says police was called to calm down the situation and several arrests were made.
“The police from Sheema responded and restored sanity at the school. The 7 ring leaders were identified and arrested.” Enanga said
He identified the suspects as Nuwasharamu Propser, 18, Andinda Roden, 18, Nganzi Owen,18, Kato Timothy, 18 , Akandwanaho Allan, 19, Nuwasiima Saul, 17 and Matama Samuel, all Senior Four students at the same school.
Police condemned acts of violence in schools especially as learners in candidate classes are preparing to sit for their national examinations.
