KARAMOJA
Speaking during a lecture in Oliver Reginald Tambo School of Leadership and Pan-African Centre of Excellence in Nakaseke District, President Museveni stated that Karamoja needs special attention from the government because it suffers from multiple problems.
The package, according to Museveni, will prioritise the provision of food and water as well as guaranteeing households can get money quickly. To achieve the goal of sufficient food production, Museveni announced that the government would introduce tractors to the region. Additionally, more dams will be built to solve the water crisis.
Museveni also emphasized that Karamoja residents need to be patriotic, cautioning against practicing politics of identity that only emphasises tribes and religion. Instead, he urged them to embrace the principle of patriotism, stating that Uganda is more useful to them than their tribal groups.
Through commercial agriculture, industries/factories, services, and ICT, the people of Karamoja can be transformed socially and economically, argued Museveni.
He further revealed that leaders in Karamoja have undergone a transformational leadership course for the last three weeks to build community resilience and empower local leadership to play a more critical role in fostering peace and development.
The course’s attendants included mainly political leaders from all the districts of Karamoja, selected from the district local council, youth leaders, sub-county local leaders, and district councillors.
