Opposition Uganda People’s Congress leader, Hon. James Jimmy Akena Obote has asked Ugandans to stay vigilant and spend within their means during the Christmas season.
In a Christmas Message to Ugandans on Wednesday, Akena parroted the security threats by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in different parts of the country and asked Ugandans to be security cautious while celebrating the birth of Christ.
“The ugly scenes of the road accidents across the country and the Freedom city stampede at the eve of 2022 as well as the recent bomb blasts are still fresh in our minds.”he asserted.
On Monday night, suspected ADF rebels attacked and killed close to 10 people in Kyabandara town Kamwenge district. The incident has since aroused fears among ugandans and security agencies.
The threats have also prompted neighboring district of Ibanda to temporarily ban night economies such as overnight prayers, night clubs, karioks and other gatherings one way of ensuring safety of people and their property.
Caleb Tukaikiriza, the Ibanda Resident District Commissioner instructed the district security committee (DSC) to ensure that the Chief Executive Officer (CAO), DISO, GISOs, police stations andnposts and local council authorities maintain the ban.
Additionally, the UPC president encouraged road users to respect and exhibit a high degree of road discipline to avoid causing accidents. According to Akena, roads are always overwhelmed during Christmas season with alot of both people and goods which he says calls for proper road usage by motorists and other road users.
