At least 16 Health workers in Mbale district and other 30 people said to be contacts of a female patient who died with COVID-19 like symptoms have been quarantined.
The quarantined are 16 health workers of Joy Hospice Health center in Mbale district where the patient was being treated whereas the over 30 are the contacts.
The patient is a Kenyan national married to a Ugandan man who was picked from Mabyale Sub county in Namisindwa district and admitted at Joy Hospice Health Centre where she breathed her last yesterday.
COVID-19 surveillance teams from Namisindwa and Mbale districts have quarantined 50 people believed to be contacts of the deceased.
Edward Nyongesa, the Mbale Surveillance Focal Person said 16 health workers are quarantined at the health facility which is currently out of bounds for the public and the rest of the contacts are quarantined in Namisindwa district.
Dr. Diana Atwine, the PS Ministry of Health ssaid the ministry sent specialists in Mbale who picked samples from the patient and the two results had tested positive. She added that another test was being carried out at the UVRI Entebbe to confirm the cause of the death.
