Two died in a fiery crash after a motorcycle they were traveling on was struck by a hit-and-run trailer on Ishaka – Kasese Highway.
Mugema Geoffrey, 58, a Boda Boda rider was killed along with Tumusiime Tophias 35, Passanger on the motorcycle, both residents of Ryampanga Kabingo Parish, Kyamuhunga Sub-county in Bushenyi District.
SSP Martial Tumusiime, Greater Bushenyi Region Police Spokesperson, reported that a fatal accident occurred on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at approximately 6:50 a.m. at Nyampungi trading center.
“A trailer, traveling from Ishaka to Kasese, lost control and collided with a motorcycle (registration number UFS 092Q, Bajaj boxer), resulting in the instant deaths of two individuals,” he said.
The cause of the accident was attributed to the carelessness of the driver. Police impounded the motorcycle to Ishaka Police Station pending IOV inspection, while the bodies were taken to Comboni hospital, Kyamuhunga for a postmortem.
In a separate incident, two people who were also traveling on a Boda Boda survived narrowly death after they were knocked by a Tausi Bus registration number UBG 354M Kanyandaro on Bushenyi – Ishaka Road.
It is alleged that the bus was attempting to overtake a Fuso truck when it knocked the Boda Boda causing the accident.
SSP Martial said the victims; Nassuna Shakira and Ainebyoona Ronald who were rushed to KIU Hospital Ishaka for treatment while the bus was towed to Bushenyi CPS pending IOV inspection.
