Reknown businessman, His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Agha Khan IV has passed away, muslim community reported.
Agha Khan, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims passed away at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugual on February 4. He died at the age of 88.
He is also the founder of the Agha Khan Development Network, a conglomerate of different companies in Africa including Nation Media Group which runs Daily Monitor in Uganda, Daily Nation in Kenya, NTV Uganda, The East African Newspaper, Agha Khan Schools, Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi, among others.
He was also the eldest son of Prince Aly Khan and Joan Yarde-Buller, and grandson and successor of Imam of the late Sir Sultan Mahomed Shali Agha Khan III.
The minster of state for finance, planning and economic development (in charge of planning), Amos Lugoloobi has commended Agha Khan for his great contribution to national development in Uganda.
He said Prince Agha Khan has been a pillar in transforming the media industry, health, and education sectors in Uganda, stating that his death is a great loss to the country.
Shia Ismaili Muslims community has announced that the 50th Imam has been designated and is to be announced following the reading of His Highness’s Will in the coming days.
