Minister of Internal Affairs Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire has said there is no law preventing any registered political party from establishing offices across the country.
Speaking on the matter, Otafiire challenged critics to cite any legislation that bars National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, from opening political offices.
“Is there any law that bars Kyagulanyi from opening a regional political office? Tell me any law that prohibits Kyagulanyi from opening political offices when he holds a license for political parties from the Electoral Commission,” Otafiire remarked.
Kyagulanyi, who leads the NUP, recently opened a regional office in Mbarara, Western Uganda. He had earlier launched another office in Iganga, Busoga sub-region, as part of his party’s countrywide mobilisation efforts.
The development comes amid heightened political activity as opposition parties expand their grassroots structures ahead of the 2026 general elections.
