MITOOMA
A senior Six candidate at Bubangizi Secondary School in Mitooma District has passed on, just hours before the start of this year’s Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.
The deceased, identified as Bridget Ninsiima, was a Senior Six Arts student who had reportedly been battling a strange illness for close to ten months.
The school’s Director of Studies, Moses Ahimbisibwe described the incident as both sad and shocking.
“On a sad and shocking note, we have lost our student, Ninsiima Bridget S.6 Arts. She has been sick for almost ten months. She got a strange sickness on her hand early this year. She was to sit UNEB exams starting from Monday,” the DoS announced in a social media post.
Bridget was among thousands of candidates who were expected to start writing their UACE examinations on Monday, November 10, 2025, across the country.
According to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), a total of 166,402 candidates registered for this year’s UACE exams, reflecting a 14.6% increase from last year’s 141,996 candidates.
Of these, 77,772 (44%) are females, while 93,630 (56%) are males, UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo revealed. He added that 42,328 candidates (25%) are sponsored under the government’s Universal Post Level Education Training (UPOLET) programme, while 124,074 (75%) are privately sponsored.
“These will write their papers from 2,844 examination centres across the country,” Odongo explained.
By press time, the school had not issued an official statement regarding the cause of Bridget’s death, and a medical report from doctors was yet to be released. More details to follow… MHSRIP.
