A desperate Dad in Liberia has reportedly been forced to sell his son, so the rest of his children are able to eat.
The 45-yr-old father was arrested by the Liberia National Police (NLP) after he was found with his son in a 25Kg bag of rice for sale.
Upon arrest, the man who said is the only bread winner at home admitted selling his son saying he lacked food to feed his Eight children.
“I have eight (8) kids, I can’t feed them all, I’m selling this one to take care of the rest,” he said with tears flowing down his cheeks.
A local media has reported that a good samaritan offered to adopt the child.
“A Good Samaritan has offered to adopt a child whose father tried to exploit him.” Online Parrot, a local online media reported.
The weight of poverty on parents with many kids in Liberia is going out of hand as famine and hunger continues biting the population harder.
According to Women and Children Protection Section of the Liberia National Police, the father will be charged with endangering the welfare of a child and illicit trafficking of humans in Liberia.
There have been persistent reports of child trafficking in war-torn Liberia, with orphanages and religious institutions linked to some cases.
