BUSHENYI
The Igara East Member of Parliament and National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer, Hon. Mawanda Maranga Michael, has dismissed claims by Gerald Agaba that he is the Chief Coordinator of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in Western Uganda, describing them as baseless.
Addressing the media on Wednesday at his county office in Kitwe Rwentuha, Bushenyi district, Mawanda, who is also the Director of Mobilisation at PLU, said no such appointment had been made by the organisation’s leadership.
“PLU chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has not appointed Gerald Agaba as the Chief Coordinator for Western Uganda. The claims being circulated are therefore false and misleading,” Mawanda said.
He clarified that PLU has an established leadership structure in the region, headed by the Western Uganda Vice Chairperson, Hon. Dr Baram Barugahare.
Mawanda also addressed reports linking PLU to candidates contesting as independents in the region. He confirmed that Edgar Rwambika, who is vying for the Ruhinda County parliamentary seat in Mitooma district, is a member of PLU but is contesting as an independent.
“While Rwambika is a member of PLU, he is not standing on any party ticket. The chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, directed PLU members to contest on the NRM ticket,” Mawanda said.
He urged members of the public to disregard what he termed as misinformation about the organisation’s leadership and activities, and called on Ugandans to actively participate in the forthcoming general elections.
Mawanda reiterated PLU’s support for the NRM and its commitment to mobilising citizens to take part in the electoral process peacefully and responsibly.
