An armed robber was on Sunday 7th August assaulted to death after he and other accomplices attempted to rob a passenger bus in Ntungamo.
The incident happened at a place called Nyabugando along the Kabale highway about 1 Km off Rwentobo town in Ntungamo at around 0200hrs, when three armed robbers blocked the road with stones prompting the driver to stop.
The robbed bus motor vehicle registration number UAV 233D belongs to Gate Way Bus Services that was travelling from Kampala to Kabale. It was being driven by a one Muhereza Muhamud.
Ntungamo District Police Commander, Patience Baganzi says that no sooner had the bus stopped than one of the robbers forced the driver out and held him captive while the other two looted from passengers.
DPC Baganzi says that the robbers were armed with a toy pistol as identified by the driver, who later urged the passengers to apprehend the two robbers inside.
“The passengers managed to arrest one of the robbers whom they assaulted to death,” Baganzi confirmed
This was after realizing that the pistol they had was fake.
The two others made a run for their lives with an unspecified amount of money and a toy gun.
Police arrived at the scene of the crime, documented it and recorded statements from the victims.
Police further noted that no passengers were injured in the robbery and that they have already started inquiries into the matter. How far would one go to get a few shillings?
