Following a report of the Inspector General of Government (IGG) on Kitezi landfill collapse, which showed high-level of criminal negligence by the technical team at Kampala Capital City Authority, President Yoweri Museveni dismissed three top officials from KCCA.
In an official document which Parrots Media has seen, the President dismissed with immediate effect, the works of the KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, Deputy Executive Director Engineer David Luyimbazi and Director of Public Health Dr. Daniel Okello.
The decision to fire the trio comes after the Inspector General of Government’s (IGG) report which exposed severe oversight and negligence by these officials, in the devastating Kiteezi landfill collapse, prompting the President’s decisive response.
The report’s findings have also led to calls for further investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and other agencies, focusing on criminal negligence.
Opposition political parties in Uganda particularly the Forum for Democratic Change, Uganda People’s Congress, National Unity Platform and the Democratic Party have on several occasions called for the resignation of top officials from KCCA to allow thorough investigation into the Kiteezi issue among other scandals within KCCA.
To ensure a seamless transition, the President has instructed the Public Service Commission to advertise the vacant positions, aiming to appoint new officials within three months. The Minister for Kampala will also advise on interim appointments to prevent disruptions in KCCA operations.
