After two years of long closure, leisure and hospitality places including bars and the entertainment industry such as music concerts have been allowed to operate in a phased manner.

The directive was made by President on Friday evening while addressing the nation during the President’s New Year Message at his country home in Rwakitura Kiruhura District.

In his televised address, President Museveni said bars and concerts will be reopened for performing arts two weeks after the reopening of the schools on January 10, 2022.

“Bars, concerts, and other public gatherings will be fully reopened two weeks after the reopening of schools under full observance of the Standard Operating Procedures,” he said.

He further directed that night curfew will be uplifted for all persons, after schools have been reopened but stayed curfew for boda boda riders from 7pm – 6am.

Although some directives have been gradually lifted, Museveni warned that they may be reversed in case covid-19 cases continue surging in the country.

Museveni recognized that the COVID-19 lockdown has largely affected sectors of economy such as the entertainment industry, but was quick to note that government programmes like Emyooga, Parish Development Model will enable the affected sectors in economic recovery.
