Nsambya hospital has said that the newly launched breast milk bank will help in saving life of new born babies in the country.
On Friday November 26, Nsambya hospital launched a 250 litres Human Breast Milk Bank to save life of new born babies.
Reports indicate that 20 percent of new born babies in Uganda die due to failure to get milk within 48 hours after birth.
Dr. Charles Olaro, the Director of health services at Ministry of health said during the launch of the bank that government is committed to support the bank since there is no factory in Uganda which manufactures human Milk.
He applauded Nsambya hospital for coming out with the first ever breast feeding milk bank in Uganda.
Dr. Victoria Nakibuka, a child doctor at the hospital and one of the brains behind the initiative, has urged Women to freely support the initiative.
She says the milk will be got from women who have excess breast milk.
