As today’s youth juggle school pressures, social expectations, and the distractions of a fast-paced digital world, many are quietly longing for something deeper, a genuine, lasting relationship with God. Yet while many say they know Him, few truly understand what it takes to build and maintain that spiritual bond. Faith leaders and young believers alike agree that nurturing this connection requires intention, discipline, and a sincere desire to grow in prayer, scripture, repentance, and daily devotion. This article explores how youth can build strong and meaningful relationships with God, drawing on practical steps and spiritual reflections as written by Maria Gloria Tukashaba.
“As a youth, how do you Create a Good Relationship with God?” Tukashaba challenges. The piece guides young people toward finding peace, purpose, and direction through a deeper walk with their Creator.
A strong, meaningful relationship with God is one of the most fulfilling aspects of life. Just like any other relationship, it requires effort, communication, and sincerity. Developing a close connection with God can bring peace, guidance, and purpose, helping you navigate life’s challenges with faith and confidence though most people brag around to have known God yet they don’t know the real God they are following therefore as Christians, you are called upon to have guidelines to follow in order to build and maintain a good relationship with the creator.
For instance; spending time in prayer is a primary way of communicating with God because it allows a person to express his/ her gratitude, seek guidance, confess mistakes and ask for strength. As eating is a daily habit, let a prayer also be a daily habit on your agenda by speaking to God honestly and openly as you would speak with a trusted friend, moreso, include moments of silence to listen and reflect, not just speak by doing this, God only attends to you and provides.
Read and Reflect on the Scriptures.God communicates with us through the Bible. Therefore by reading and reflecting on scripture, you can understand His will, learn life lessons, and find comfort in difficult times for example ( Zephaniah 3:19-20) thus as christians of this time, set a schedule for studying the Bible by meditating on God’s promises and teachings.
Seek Forgiveness and Repentance. No one is perfect. God values a humble heart that admits mistakes and seeks forgiveness Confess sins in prayer and ask for guidance to change remember King David, after offending God, he mercifully begged for forgiveness and God heard him and cleaned him . Most of the time, youths think that it is only fornication that appears as a sin to God leaving behind other offences so as your are asking for mercy, tell God all the offences you have done, He will wash your sin with hyssop and become more whiter than snow. Repentance also restores peace and strengthens trust in God’s mercy
Be Patient and Persistent .Building a good relationship with God is a lifelong journey. There will be moments of doubt, challenges, and spiritual dryness.Stay faithful just like Hannah even when it feels difficult.Keep seeking God through prayer, reading, and worship.Trust that your relationship will grow stronger with time.Persistence and patience demonstrate your commitment and deepen your faith.
Remember, God desires a personal connection with you, a relationship rooted in love, trust, and faith. Start today, nurture your relationship, and experience the blessings that come from walking closely with Him. God bless you!
