There us a growing tension between the Ishaka traders and their colleagues in Bushenyi over the construction site of the planned Bushenyi Central Market.
According to reports, the market which currently is located in central Division Ishaka Bushenyi municipality is to be uograded to a modern market to accomodate more stalls and traders.
However, there are still disagrements between traders from two big towns that make up the municipality that is Ishaka town and Bushenyi town on where to construct the new Central Market.
Bushenyi Traders who are more worried of losing the anticipated market to Ishaka say the construction location has been marred with politics. They accuse their Ishaka counterparts of politicizing the market attempting to have it constructed in their area.
The construction of Bushenyi Central Market is funded by African Development Bank through the Ministry of local government under the Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement Programme (MATIP) funded by the ADB to improve agricultural markets in all municipalities of Uganda.
Speaking to reports, the Bushenyi central Market chairman Byaruhanga Kabogoza accused district leaders of politicizing government programs.
He said that some politicians and municipal officials are already disrupting traders as they organise their market for inspection by ADB officials.
The central division chairman Steven Karuti assured traders that the market must be constructed in Bushenyi as long as he is still the chairman.
Karuti said he is aware of politicians pushing for the construction of the market in Ishaka noting that he would rather resign than seeing the market relocated to Ishaka town.
He ordered all traders with fresh foods, charcoal among others outside the market to shift to the Market before tomorrow evening or else he will hunt them down.
