Police in Rubirizi District have arrested a local businessman over dubious claims that he was robbed of UGX 500 million by four unidentified masked assailants
The Acting Greater Bushenyi Region Police Spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa has identified the suspect as Kiiza Robert, businessman dealing in Waragi business and resident of Buhera Central, Nyakashaaru Ward, Rubirizi Division, Rubirizi District. He was arrested on Thursday, June 11—two days after alleging that he was attacked and robbed of UGX 500 million by four unidentified masked men traveling in an unmarked Drone vehicle while en route to Ishaka.
“Kiiza claimed he was robbed at Nkombe Forest while on his way to sleep in Ishaka Bushenyi, intending to deposit the money in the bank the next day,” said SP Tayebwa.
Tayebwa said the suspect was arrested for questioning following inconsistencies in his account, prompting them to arrest and detain him for further questioning.
A search was later conducted at the homes of both Kiiza and a co-worker from whom he claimed to have collected Waragi. During the search, police recovered UGX 118,025,000, casting doubt on the truth of the alleged robbery.
“We acted swiftly due to contradictions in his statement and were able to recover a significant amount of money from his residence,” SP Tayebwa said. “This recovery does not match his robbery claim, and investigations are ongoing.”
Rubirizi Police have opened a case file CRB 284/2025, and further inquiries are being conducted to establish the truth behind the incident.
