Students of Butsibo Secondary School in Sheema on Tuesday staged a demonstration, protesting against the appointment of Robert Mwesigwa, who was recently appointed to head the school.
The rowdy students said the ministry should immediately transfer Mwesigwa to another school and vowed not to return to class if he doesn’t leave the school soon.
Recently, Robert Mwesigwa was appointed the new headteacher at this school from Keyo SS in Amuru district, Northern Uganda by the government. His first day at Butsibo SS however, did not receive a warm receiption after students outrightly rejected him.
Students broke window glasses, destroyed cars including that of the deputy, and food from the school’s food store during the strike.
West Ankole Diocese secretary on education Rev. Bernard Mushabe told reports that the school management together with police are investigating the cause of the strike.
“We are investigating the matter … we are managing the situation into normal though students are still hiding in bushes,” he added.
