SSEMBABULE
CBS Radio journalist Jimmy Ssekabito has died, sources have confirmed.
Ssekabito, who had been covering news in Mawogola County, Ssembabule District, passed away at Lubaga Hospital where he had reportedly been admitted for treatment. The cause of death was not immediately revealed.
Further reports allege that he collapsed on a Boda Boda along Lubaga road near Red Cross offices, and was rushed to the hospital by a Red Cross ambulance. However, a medic at the hospital who preferred anonymity said he was brought by a group of Boda Boda riders who abandoned him at the hospital.
Ssekabito was a long-serving correspondent for the Buganda Kingdom-owned CBS FM, and was widely known for his in-depth reporting on politics, community affairs, and social issues affecting the greater Sembabule region.
His last report was about the events that occured in Lwemiyaga Sub-county where one person was last evening shot dead and two others, including Lwemiyaga County legislator, Theodore Ssekikubo, were injured after soldiers purportedly on the side of Gen. Emmanuel Reashande invaded and forcefully dispersed Ssekikubo’s political gathering in Lwemiyaga Sub-county.
Colleagues reporters from the greater Masaka have described him as a dedicated journalist who gave voice to the rural communities of Mawogola.
CBS FM confirmed this report, but did not indulge into details of his death.
Details about funeral arrangements were yet to be communicated by the family, and the radio station by press time.
