Management at Fort Portal hospital in Fort Portal Tourism City Kabarole disrtict are stranded with a girl-child with disabilities who was abandoned at the hospital in critical conditions by her mother.
According to Juliet Batamurize, a social worker at the hospital, the child was abandoned at the hospital on November 4, by her yet to identify mother after she was admitted due to illnesses.
She identified the child as Tukamuhebwa Lucia, who according to the medical records left with behind by her mother is a resident of Kyaaka II in Kyegegwa District.
Batamurize noted that the records shows that the girl’s mother has been receiving treatment from three health centres within Kabarole and Kyegegwa but when they tried consulting from them, her whereabouts could not be traced.
She said that the child also has a brain disorder and the hospital is still giving her medicalservices.
Batamuriize said often the hospital management sends such abandoned children to babies and orphanage homes in Toro but for Tukamuhabwa case, no orphanage home has accepted to adopt her becuase of her health conditions and disabilities.
She says some generous persons with patients at the hospital have for the previous fortnight been offering patient care to the child, unfortunately, some have since been discharged.
She appeals to any kind person and NGOs to extend help to the hospital to support this child.
