Police in Kanungu are holding two suspects including a son and daughter, in connection with the gruesome murder of their father on Monday.
The body of Bernard Byamukama, 49 was discovered in his coffee plantation about 3 kilometers from his home in Bushoro cell, Nyamigoye parish, Kanyantorogo sub-county, Kanungu district.
Police say they have arrested two people namely; Ivan Ampumuza, 20 and Maureen Tukamushaba, 23, both children of the deceased and residents of the same area to help to help with the investigation into the murder.
The incident is believed to have happened at Bushoro cell on Monday 15th April, 2024 when the victim was harvesting coffee beans in his plantation. He was allegedly strangled by his children who dumped his body in a coffee plantation.
“On April 15, the deceased went to his coffee plantation to pluck coffee beans and he didn’t return home until on 16/04/ 2024 at about 0800hrs when the son to the deceased Ampumuza (suspect) disguised himself by asking his neighbors, the where abouts of his father,” said Kigezi region police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate.
Police preliminary report indicate that the deceased has been having a long-standing misunderstanding with his family who have occasionally made threats against his life.
“The deceased was found lying on his back facing up with strangulation marks on his neck,” Maate said.
Police visited the scene of the crime, recorded statements and handed over body to the family for a decent burial while the suspects are in custody on charges of murder on file reference number CRB.240/2024.
