HOIMA CITY
Youth delegates from across the country are today electing the National Female Youth Member of Parliament during the National Youth Delegates Conference at Hoima Stadium in Hoima City.
The Electoral Commission (EC) said all preparations have been completed to ensure a peaceful and smooth election process.
“The Electoral Commission has made all the necessary arrangements to ensure that today’s election is conducted peacefully, smoothly and in accordance with the relevant electoral laws,” EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said on Friday morning.

The National Female Youth MP is elected by an electoral college comprising of district and city youth leaders and other special interest group representatives. Delegates include all district and city chairpersons of youth committees, secretaries for female youth affairs at the district and city level, and secretaries for finance from all district and city youth committees.
Others are four representatives delegated by the Uganda National Students Association (UNSA), as well as one youth with disability nominated by an institutional body responsible for persons with disabilities.
Mucunguzi appealed to candidates and delegates to conduct themselves peacefully and adhere to electoral laws and guidelines issued by the Commission.
“We appeal to all candidates, their agents and delegates to follow the guidelines given by the Electoral Commission and treat each other with respect,” he said.

He warned participants against using inflammatory language or engaging in acts that could promote division among the youth.
EC also cautioned against the use of social media and digital platforms to spread misinformation, disinformation and fake news during the electoral process.
Mucunguzi urged all stakeholders to ensure the elections are conducted peacefully and without incidents of violence or lawbreaking.

“These elections will come and go, but Uganda and the youth of Uganda will remain. The Commission therefore appeals to all youth, candidates, agents, supporters and delegates to maintain peace and ensure that the election concludes successfully and gives pride to the country and its young people,” Mucunguzi said.
The National Female Youth MP is one of the five youth representatives in Parliament, with the others being regional youth representatives who were elected on January 28. NRM swept all the four seats in the elections.
