Government has been urged to desist from militarization of response to Ebola pandemic as it was a case during COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is okay for the UPDF to help in response to trace suspected cases and their contacts, but please, do not go carrying guns as if you are going to hunt down criminals like it happened in the first days of COVID-19.” Gov’t urged.
The remarks were made by the Forum for Democratic Change Spokesperson Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda at the party media briefing at Najjanankumbi Kampala on Monday.
He also appealed to the population to stay vigilant by re porting any suspected cases of Ebola disease in their communities as well as treating the victims with humanity and compassion.
Ssemujju suggests that government should foot bills for Ebola patients in areas where the disease has been reported.
Last week, the ministry of health confirmed the outbreak of Ebola disease in Uganda after the first case was reported in Mubende district. Several other cases have been reported in the neighbouring districts of Kasanda, Kakumiro, Lyantonde and in Kisoro.
By Monday 26th Sept, the ministry had registered 21 death fatalities and 34 average cases of Ebola pandemic. There are also speculations that another case has been reported in the nation’s capital city Kampala however, the ministry has not released an official communication regarding the collected samples from the suspect.
