As presidential candidates officially hit the campaign trail today (September 29), the Electoral Commission (EC) has appealed to all contenders, their agents, and supporters to strictly follow the harmonized campaign program in order to avoid clashes and ensure peaceful elections.
EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, on Monday emphasized that the campaign roadmap, which was agreed upon and endorsed by all candidates through their agents, clearly stipulates where each candidate is expected to be, the venues, and the dates of their rallies.
“The Commission believes that if all candidates, their agents, and supporters respect this harmonized program, we shall not have incidents where there are clashes between and among them,” Mucunguzi said.
He reminded stakeholders that campaign activities will run daily between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with no one expected to campaign beyond the stipulated hours.
Mucunguzi further urged participants to avoid violence, inflammatory language, and misuse of digital platforms through fake news and disinformation. He cautioned that elections should not be treated as a “do or die affair” but as a democratic process that must leave Uganda united and peaceful.
The EC also appealed to all actors to respect traffic guidelines during campaign movements and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies for smooth operations.
“Elections will come and go, but Uganda must remain peaceful, united, and progressing,” Mucunguzi urged.
The 2026 general elections are now entering the most heated phase, with candidates traversing the country to solicit votes, amid heightened calls for tolerance and adherence to the law.
