At least eleven people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a tragic road traffic crash that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Kalegero Corner along the Masaka–Mbarara Highway in Lwengo District.
According to SP Kananura Michael,the public relations officer for the directorate of Traffic and road safety,the fatal accident, which happened at approximately 1:30 a.m., involved a bus, registration number UAL 492H, belonging to Kasaba Bus Company, and a Tata lorry, registration number UBH 013Q.
According to Kananura, the collision resulted in the immediate death of eleven people while several others sustained injuries of varying severity. Emergency responders rushed the injured victims to Lyantonde Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment while the bodies of the deceased were also conveyed to the same hospital’s mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
The traffic Police have since launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the crash. “Investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing” Kananura said in a statement.
Traffic police have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during night travel.
