A casual labourer at coffee factory in Lwengo District was on Thursday announced dead after he was unconciously beaten by his employer.
The deceased is Stuart Kakooza, 20, a resident of Kamuseenene Village in Lwengo Rural Sub County, Lwengo District.
He was killed on Thursday April, 2022, at around 4pm.
Kakooza has been a casual worker at his uncle’s coffee processing factory, a one Henry Sseremba, a coffee dealer in Kyetume trading centre.
It is alleged that Sseremba beat up his nephew and labourer to death for stealing a bucket of his coffee beans from the factory compound.
The suspect reportedly called the area defense secrerary Mike Ssekyondwa and reported he had caught a thief of his coffee asking him to rush to his factory.
“When I reached the factory, I found Kakooza unconscious and asked Mr Sseremba why he was not taking him to hospital for treatment, he only said I should take the thief to the police because he was causing him losses in the business,” said Ssekyondwa
According to Ssekyondwa, the suspect beat the victim at his home and when he became uncouncious he drove him in his car and dropped him at the factory where he died.
“He drove the deceased in his car after beating him and dropped him at his factory where he died due to major wounds inflicted on him,” he added.
Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, Muhammad Nsubuga has said the suspect was severely beaten using sharp objects and stickes.
He further said the suspect took on his heels after realizing that the worker was very unconcious.
“Our preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was beaten using sticks and sharp objects. Our team of detectives is on the ground to look for the suspect who took off immediately after the incident,” he said.
Residents turned rowdy and attempted to attack Sseremba’s coffee factory but they’re easily controlled by police.
The deceased body was taken to Lwengo health centre V and inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
