The Dokolo County MP Cecilia Atim Ogwal has asked opinion leaders and netizens to engage their leaders in talks to identify reasons they are silent in parliament
Ogwal says that engaging MPs who performed poorly in plenary will not only help to identify their challenges but also to chart a way forward.
A recent report on MPs performance in plenary conducted by the Saturday Vision indicates that at least 64 MPs did not speak any single word since the inauguration of the 11th parliament from 24 May, 2021 to 11 May, 2022.
The MPs included among others Ruhinda South County MP Mugabe Donozio Kahonda, Bagiire Aggrey Henry (Bunya County West), Agnes Nandutu (Bududa District Woman MP), Okabe Patrick (Serere countu), Okwir Samuel (Moroto County), Businge Peninah Kabingani (Older Oèrsons MP) Samson Igeme Nathan Nabeeta (Jinja East) and Derrick Kabuura (Ishaka -Bushenyi municipality), they all did not speak any word in Parliament.
Cecilia Ogwal said following the release of the MPs performance in plenary, some of the legislators who performed poorly have been insulted and ridiculed by electorates.
She says these should be followed up and encouraged to improve the representation of their electorates in the house.
Cecilia who says the MPs were elected by the people who should now come hold them accountable as well as supporting them to ensure better legislation.
Mugabe Donozio Kahonda who is among the poorly performing MPs attributed his performance on the sicknesses which he said was even airlifted to receive treatment abroad.
“I have been sickly for a while to the extent of being admitted outside the country,” Kahonda said in a Ruhinda South Community WhatsApp Forum.
Kahonda did not however divulge into details of his sicknesses but reliable sources feom his camp alleged that he had been poisoned something that this publication could not confirm.
“We thank God he survived poison, we have been on our k ees other things will come later.” Anonymous source said
On the other hand, the Moroto County MP Samuel Okwir attributed his silence on the death of the former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah who he said unlike the current speaker Anitah Among, would give time to each legislator raise their concerns on the floor of parliament.
Okwir was quick to execuse himself that he met the deputy speaker of parliament Thomas Tayebwa and lodged his complaints and the latter agreed to pick him from the floor to speak.
He added that his effort to meet speaker Anita Among to resolve the matter has failed for almost ten times but expressed hope that they will soon meet.
