A devastating accident occurred early Monday morning on the Gulu-Kampala highway near Karuma Travelers Inn, resulting in the death of the driver and critical injuries to six passengers. The Makome bus, registration number UAR 339M, was traveling from Gulu to Kampala when it encountered a group of four elephants on the road.
According to Mr. Okot Charles, Director of Makome Bus Company, the bus departed Gulu at 12:30 a.m. and struck one of the elephants, causing severe damage to the vehicle. The driver, identified as Okema Patrick, a resident of Palabek, was confirmed dead at the scene.
Six passengers sustained critical injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care. Those with minor injuries were taken to Kiryandongo hospital, with plans to transfer them to Gulu for further management to facilitate easier access for their families.
