Police in Kanungu yesterday arrested two adult males suspected to have strangled their relative to death.
The suspects are; Banabas Tumwesigye 45 years a biological son to the deceased and his son Francis Kanyesigye, who are alleged to have murdered one Kyitaragabirwe Vangilista 72 year old, all residents of Nyarushanje village Muramba parish Rutenga sub county Kanungu district.
The duo is said to have committed the crime on the 3rd June,2023 at about 11:00am in Nyarushanje,Muramba, Rutenga subcounty.
It is alleged that yesterday 3rd June,2023 at around 8:00am, the deceased left home while looking for people to buy her eucalyptus trees and at around 10:00am, the grand son one Francis Kanyesigye approached her pretending to be a potential buyer and they went together in the eucalyptus trees to check the trees for buying.
It has been revealed by locals that the grand son went to their nearest trading center and told people that he found her grand mother dead in her eucalyptus trees.
The community members rushed to the scene and found the victim dead with signs of strangling on the neck and became suspicious because the deceased had a land conflict with that son and some people had seen her with her grandson heading to the tree plantation.
Concerned citizens notified the nearby police which rushed to the scene, examined her body which was later handed over to the family for a decent send off. The duo was later arrested to help police in investigations under case number CRB 394/2023 as confirmed by ASP Elly Maate the PRO Kigezi Regional police.
