The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has extended an invitation to disgruntled members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), National Unity Platform (NUP), and other parties to join its ranks as part of a fresh recruitment drive ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The call was made by the party’s Deputy Secretary for Publicity in charge of Publications and Documentation, Mulindwa Walid Lubega, during a press briefing at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi.

“We are in serious conversations with several members from NUP, NRM, and other formations, especially the leaders who didn’t succeed in their previous electoral bids, particularly in Buganda, Busoga, and western Uganda regions. Our interest is to bring them into the FDC fold, and I can assure the country that talks are in high gear,” Lubega said.
He explained that the engagements are part of broader party strategies to mobilize and expand grassroots support as the countdown to 2026 gathers pace.
Over the weekend, more than 160 leaders from Bugisu sub-region and Budaka district, most of them from NRM, officially crossed to FDC during the homecoming celebrations of Budadiri West MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi at Mbale Cricket Grounds on August 30.
Mulindwa described the defections as proof of both Nandala’s growing influence and the party’s resilience.
“Those who announced FDC’s death were too early to eat their chicken. We are regaining ground across the country,” he said, taking a swipe at members who previously broke away to form the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).
He added that FDC is determined to reclaim Kampala and Buganda region strongholds, including retaining the Kampala Lord Mayor’s seat, which the party unveiled former Makindye East MP Ibrahim Kasozi to contest for.

Sources within the party also revealed to Parrots Media that FDC is currently in talks with a section of NUP leaders from the Kampala Metropolitan area.
“They will be inducted into the party’s values and briefed on the nomination process scheduled for this week,” a party insider disclosed.
