Opposition accuses EC of shielding Speaker Among from competition

The national youth leader of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and Bugabula County parliamentary aspirant, Francis Adepo, has urged opposition supporters to participate in the ongoing National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries and vote for weaker candidates.

Francis Adepo (M) , the FDC national youth Chairperson.

Adepo argues that influencing the NRM’s internal elections could give the opposition an edge in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

“We should manoeuvre and have weak candidates take the flag,” Adepo told Parrots Media on Wednesday.

His remarks come in response to a viral social media post claiming he had called on non-NRM members to interfere with the ruling party’s internal processes.

“Yes, I made the remarks,” Adepo acknowledged clarifying he was not misquoted

NRM supporters in Kaitumura Cell,Eastern Division Rukungiri Municipality gather at the polling station to vote their suitable candidates.

The NRM is currently conducting party primaries across the country to select flagbearers for parliamentary positions ahead of the 2026 general elections. However,in some areas like Kaitumura Cell, Eastern Division Rukungiri Municipality, voters are complaining that they have been refused to vote yet they are in the register, very few people have been allowed to vote. In other areas like Kamuli violence has been reported leaving one person, Sowedi Egumbye dead. Sowedi, the husband to one of the district woman MP Aspirant, Sarah Auma was last night shot dead by police at the home of Buzaya county MP in an alleged electoral violence. Others areas like Ssembabule, Isingiro and Arua City where violence was previously reported remain under heavy security deployment.

Adepo’s comments have stirred political debate, with critics accusing him of undermining democratic processes, while supporters praise the strategy as a tactical move in Uganda’s increasingly competitive political landscape
