Unknown source of fire outbreak was last night reported at Godfrey Foundation Primary School Girls Dormitory in Kikajjo zone, Namasuba, Masajja Division Makindye Ssabagabo Wakiso District off Entebbe Road.
Richard Kagoda, the school deputy headteacher in charge of Academics and Administration says the fire started at around 2:30am when all the pupils were asleep. According to him the fire started from a girl’s dormitory which accommodates 45 pupils of Primary five and six but, by the time when the incident occurred, 20 pupils were not in the dormitory.
“Out of the 45 pupils, 20 had gone home because of school fees. We managed to rescue all the children and some of the property,” he said.
He added that no fatalities and or human injuries were caused as the result of the fire outbreak.
Police fire brigade was informed and arrived at the scene in time and extinguished the fire to stop it from spreading to other parts of the building.
“Over 20 mattresses and some suitcases with pupils’ properties were destroyed but we had no death or injuries,” Kagoda explained.
Studies have already resumed normally at the school and the deputy headteacher has appealed to parents and the general public to stay calm noting that the situation has been stabilized.
The police officer at the scene only identified as Adupu declined to comment on the matter and refered our reporter to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire.
Attempts to speak to ASP Owoyesigyire remained futile by the time of compiling this report. The cause of the fire is still unknown and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
