South Sudanese former minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management, Peter Mayen Majongdit has announced he will contest for country’s top political seat in 2024.
He made the revelations on Easter Sunday when he said he’s all-ready to challenge his former boss, HE Salva Kiir.
As we look forward to enforcing the first ever Democratic Elections in South Sudan, I am committed to Liberal Democratic Principals, if being a president means someone who looks ahead not behind, then I am proud to say I am ready for the presidential race in 2024. God Bless South Sudan,” said Mayen, the leader of People’s Liberal Party and head of opposition coalition in South Sudan
It should be remembered that Mayen and Kiir relationship became halfbaked after the latter fired the former from a ministerial position in November, 2022. Mayen has quietly lived in his hometown Warrap State.
In February, Mayen rejected the appointment of Albino Atak as his replacement stating that the portfolio belongs to the umbrella coalition.
However, his party has also not issued any communication endorsing him as their party flag bearer in next year’s elections.
