Nabbanja was speaking to Parrots Media on updates on the response by government to persons affected by ebola disease where she said that the relief food will be distributed to a yet unestimated number of people in Mubende and Kasanda districts who cannot afford during the lock down announced.

She added that the distribution of food will be conducted after thorough scrutinization of the list of the vulnerable persons stating that government will distribute 1,000 tonnes of maize flour, and 500 tonnes of beans to the recipients.

“The relief shall only be targeting people who cannot afford a meal during the lockdown such as the Boda Boda riders, roadside vendors, waitresses, taxi operators and other groups as identified by the task forces,” Nabbanja said.

Earlier this week, opposition political parties FDC and UPC asked government to provide food relief and essentials to families affected by ebola. This was after President Museveni declared lockdown in ebola Mubende and Kasanda to contain the spread of the virus.

“UPC urgues government to provide basic food and essential to residents in the affected districts since they are unable to cross to the neighbouring districts to fend for their families as it was done during the two year lockdown of covid-19,” urged Sharon Oyat Arach, UPC spokesperson

However, the minister for ICT Chris Baryomunsi today released a statement directing the Office of the Prime Minister to start distribution of food relief to affected persons in the two districts next week.

According to a statement, the task forces in both districts have been tasked to identify vulnerable persons and submit the names to the OPM.

Records at the ministry of health on ebola by Friday 21st October, indicate a total of 65 ebola cumulative cases, 26 death, 25 recoveries, 9 cases on admission, while a total of 1,638 contacts are under quarantine for 21 days.
